The hourly pay rate for this position is determined by the most recent academic year completed.
Who You Are
You are a college student who is currently enrolled, or a recent graduate of an accredited college/university majoring in a mechanical engineering discipline. You are a self-starter who enjoys learning and possess a willingness to develop design, fabrication and testing skills to aid in process improvement and project organization. With Gracious Professionalism® our ideal intern will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
FIRST headquarters is in Manchester, New Hampshire, and we seek interns based in the New England area in order to orient the student to the organization and its culture through an in-person work experience.
What You will Do
Design, draft and build test game elements for the 2026 FIRST Robotics Competition season
Plan, prepare and organize materials needed for the 2026 season
Prototype and test concepts for the 2027 FIRST Robotics Competition season
Additional department projects as needed
What We Expect
An individual with an interest and/or involvement in the advancement of STEM education programs who also possesses the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program, or a recent graduate, majoring in a mechanical engineering discipline
Experience with research, analysis, and subsequent recommendations
High attention to detail and accuracy
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 including SharePoint and Teams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with SolidWorks CAD platform preferred
Capable hand and power tool operator
Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally
FIRST alum status required
